SO finally the six finalists in the country’s very first shoe design competition was announced yesterday, and boy was I jealous when those six each received N$2 000 cash! And this is besides the main prize which will see 200 pairs of each of their designs being manufactured and sold at Streethouse outlets across the country.

By latest 1 November the six designs chosen by the public and judges from Streethouse and its partner in the competition, Student Lounge, from an initial 1 500 entries, will be on the shelves. Read more about Young designers shine!

Deadliest month for US in Afghanistan

KABUL - August has become the deadliest month for US troops in the nearly 10-year-old war in Afghanistan, where international forces have started to go home and let Afghan forces take charge of securing their country.

A record 66 US troops have died so far this month, eclipsing the 65 killed in July 2010, according to a tally by The Associated Press. On a shopping trip to the city, a backwoods farmer bought a 24-piece jigsaw puzzle. He worked on it every night for two weeks. Finally, the puzzle was fi nished. “Look what I’ve done, Jess,” he said proudly to a visiting neighbour. “That’s surely somethin’, Willard.
