Pilchard quotas are to increase to 31 000 tonnes next year as the Fisheries and Marine Resources Ministry has gained approval from Cabinet to grow the allowable harvest on the back of a 147% leap in ocean biomass, thanks to proper management and conservation.
Pilchards will soon be back on the menu, filling ship decks and canning factories at the coast to overflowing after the news that the Ministry of Fisheries has plans to increase the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) quota to 31 000 tonnes for the 2012 season.
