A new ultra-conservative Islamist member of the Egyptian parliament has resigned his seat and party post in a scandal over getting a nose job and then lying about it, Al Ahram reports. MP Anwar El-Balkimy, wearing bandages, had originally told reporters from his hospital bed that he had been attacked by masked gunmen on a desert highway between Cairo and Alexandria last week.

A male inmate in the maximum security section of a Maine jail has breached security by sneaking into another wing for sex with a female inmate. The sheriff's office says the 23-year-old man from Biddeford was caught crawling between cell blocks on Friday night as he was returning to his cell at the Cumberland County Jail. Two Colorado men who drove a friend's corpse around town and used the dead man's credit cards to buy drinks at bars and strip clubs have been sentenced to two years' probation in Denver, KUSA-TV reports.
