NFA Cup: Pirates draw Arrows

The draw for the Bidvest Namibia Cup took place on Monday and it produced some scintillating clashes for the last 16 teams.

The last winners of the Namibia Football Association’s flagship cup, now known as the Bidvest Namibia Cup, Eleven Arrows will face Orlando Pirates in the third round of the tournament after the draw was made on Monday in Walvis Bay.

Arrows, who won the leo NFA Cup match in 2011 in Walvis Bay, will take on the 2009 winners of the Cup Orlando Pirates on the weekend of March 2-3 when the Bidvest Namibia Cup last 16 teams battle it out for quarter-final places. Read more about NFA Cup: Pirates draw Arrows

NO television deal yet for Ambunda fight

The organisers of Paulus Ambunda’s world title bout against Thailand’s Pungluang Sor Singyu, have yet to finalise a television broadcast deal for the March 2 fight.

There is still no deal for the broadcast rights to air Paulus ‘The Rock’ Ambunda’s March 2 fight against WBO World Bantamweight champion Pungluang Sor Singyu from Thailand, Namibian Sun learnt yesterday.

Nestor Tobias, who is tasked with promoting the historic bout, said yesterday there is a lot of wheeling and dealing going on behind the scenes to get a reputable broadcaster on board.

“We are busy talking to people... in fact, we have an agent who is dealing with that and hopefully by Friday we’ll have an update,” Tobias said, when asked about the airing rights. Read more about NO television deal yet for Ambunda fight

OFF THE MARK: The Nedbank Cycle Challenge was held in Windhoek yesterday with hundreds of enthusiastic cyclers taking part. Yesterday, Costa Seibeb, who also won the race last year, pipped his competitors to the post in the senior men category, when he crossed in just 2 hours, 28 minutes and 36 seconds. Iyambo and armas dominate Rössing race

A duo from the NDF made their mark at the famous coastal road race held for a record 22 years at the weekend.

Paulus Iyambo of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) retained his title of national marathon champion of Namibia when he finished the Rössing National Marathon Championship in a new personal best winning time of 2:18:16 on Saturday.

Looking relaxed after the race Iyambo said, “I have to give credit to the whole NDF team. We always train together and help to pace each other whilst we’re out there competing. I know that I am in for a tough race whenever we run together. Read more about Iyambo and armas dominate Rössing race
