SUV in bed with man

An SUV being chased by Connecticut police plowed into house early today, landing on top of a man sleeping in his bed, the New Haven Register reports.

Firefighters worked for 90 minutes to free Michael Sweat, 34, who was trapped beneath the 2-ton BMW. The newspaper says he "appeared to be in good spirits," although suffering from second and third-degree burns to his buttocks.

The driver fled on foot. The Register says police had been chasing the vehicle for a half hour when the driver turned into a New Haven housing complex but was unable to negotiate a corner by Sweat's house.

Bulent Ozalp, the owner of the house, rushed to the scene and asked a firefighter about the condition of his tenant. "He's still speaking but he has a car on top of him," the firefighter told Ozalp.
