FORMER RUGBY EXECUTIVES FAILED DISMALLY

NAMIBIAN rugby will have another opportunity to put to bed the disastrous administrative and leadership woes that has kept the sport in a miserable state, blurring its image in the process.

Reports of infighting, poor administrative management, lack of visionary leadership, alleged unfair dismissals, intimidation, subordination and a total lack of proper financial controls, were all paramount during the reign of Ex-president Bucks Bock, who has since jumped ship.

His Executive Committee has committed the same sin by dismissing themselves a few months back, in an effort to avoid owning up to the mess they have left at the Namibian Rugby Union headquarters in Olympia.

To be honest, it was rather a cowardice stunt by the former Executive Members to exit the sport after some have benefitted greatly from it over the past few years. They left a mess and want others to clean up. It was rather a pathetic move from you gentlemen, despite the fact that you all cited constitutional reasons and ultimately failing to hold that Annual General Meeting.

You can possibly not run away from your house while it’s on fire, at least try to put out the fire. But the former Exco members proved to be too weak to take the punch.
Your departure has in the process caused a huge damage to the image of rugby in terms of the public’s perception, players and the clubs’ confidence in the union, sponsors who had provisionally pulled out, while the International Rugby Board (IRB) are set to tighten the screws in terms of funding.

I however applaud Christo Alexander, who stood firm during the dark period, and remained despite the fact that he was aboard a sinking ship.

In fact, Alexander should be the man to lead the interim committee that was put in place to steer the game into the right direction. His superb administrative skills, wealth of knowledge on the game, and a great sense of responsibility are huge advantages.
The interim committee must now turn the tide in terms of administration, and restore the public’s confidence in the game. It’s your time, do it right this time!
