Security guard arrested after housebreaking
Windhoek City Police Superintendent Johan Kellerman said when the 22-year-old security guard got to the house in Kleine Kuppe he checked the yard to see what triggered the alarm but did not find anything.
The security guard went back to the G4S office and reported that nothing was wrong at the house.
Kellerman said the owner of the house was informed about the alarm and that G4S had attended to the problem. The owner was told everything was alright.
“But upon his return the owner realised there were items missing from the house.” Kellerman said the house is covered inside and out by surveillance cameras. When the tape was played back the owner saw the security guard forcing entry into the house. He also saw the guard stealing. He then alerted the City Police and the guard was arrested on Sunday evening.
Kellerman said the security guard reportedly went to the front door, tried to open it but found it locked.
“He then forced it open and entered the house. He took a laptop, N$3 000, 50 Euros and cellphone which he stuck under his jacket before he left the premises,” stated Kellerman.
City Police only recovered the laptop. The guard reportedly said he spent the money and gave the cellphone to his girlfriend as a present.
The suspect is kept in custody at the Windhoek Police Station and is expected to appear in court today.
